Real Submission in Humbling Situations

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up” (James 4:10, NIV).

Real Submission in Humbling Situation: When you think of the word ‘humble’ what comes to mind? Do you picture a person bowing to a king or queen? Do you see people standing as a judge enters a courtroom? Do you imagine yourself laying prostrate to God in prayer? All of these examples are vivid or noticeable signs of a physical submission, but they don’t necessarily mean genuine submission. Often times we give people in authority fake submission by going through the motions of protocol when our hearts feel a different way. If we are honest, we can admit to being guilty of doing this to God.

What is the underlying distinction between protocol and real submission?

Our experiences.

Real life situations causes us to have humbling experiences.

It can be a struggle trying to fight the opposition of carnality or our flesh. We deal with people that mistreat us or misuse us and set up barriers as a defense mechanism. Frustration and chaos becomes our daily accessories. We grow weary of disappointments after another and end up placing a wall between us and God.

“He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble (Proverbs 3:34).

Spiritual Manifestation: Life can humble us. But it is what we learn that causes us to be humbled before God. We have a choice to allow our emotions to get the best of us and refuse to surrender everything to God. When we choose this way, we deal with our problems without any power. We are just going through the motions without any hope for a better way. At some point we have to give our real situations to our real God. We do this by submitting and humbling ourselves before the LORD. Surrendering to God will not only remove the weights that appear to hold us down, it will give us a real relationship with him that our heart genuinely desires.

It’s Manifestation Time!
