2011 Theme: Make GOD GREATER!
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:” Proverbs 23:7 KJV
The Power of Your Thoughts: Have you ever rehearsed something over and over in your head that had not occurred, yet it affected the outcome? The thing is this concept can be positive or negative. Perhaps in your preparation for a job interview, you started out feeling confident but because you repetitiously thought about the worst outcome that it was actual manifested. In Dr. Chris Thurman’s “The Power of Truth” series, he discuses faulty thinking and states, “Self-talk dictates our moods, our reactions, and even our maturity level in Christ”. Our thoughts are powerful because they are eventually revealed in our speech and actions. This not only relates to situations but relationships. It is often difficult for us to have healthy relationships because of our thought patterns.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Whatever you have heard from me, or seen in me- put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9 NIV
Spiritual Manifestation: One of the most imperative instructions in the above Scripture is to focus on those things that are true. Focusing on the maybe’s, what if’s and everything that could go wrong or be wrong will only lead to a state of anxiety and fear. These are opposites from the peace God has promised us. A renewing of our minds is a mandate for having the mind of Christ. We must have the mind of Christ in order to know the truth and not what is perceived to be true. When you start thinking negative about your future and even people, you have to take control of your thoughts and mediate on the truth, which is within the Word. GOD says that He will give us peace. GOD says that we are more than conquerors. GOD says He did not give us the spirit of fear or bondage, but liberty and freedom. God says that when we feel heavy loaded he will give us rest. GOD says that we can do all things through Him who gives us strength. It is time to make GOD greater than our faulty thinking and allow His Word, what is truth, to become greater!
