Moody Mondays

2011 Theme: Make GOD GREATER!

Greetings:

“I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. When I was distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands and my soul refused to be comforted. I remembered you, O God, and I groaned; I mused, and my spirit grew faint. You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak….Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?” Psalm 77:1-4,7-9 NIV

Mental Health; Moody Mondays:  Have you ever felt like the psalmist in the above passage? Has there ever been a time that you felt God ever present, but a great distance from you? In times of trouble and facing the pressures of this world, the mind can make us think that we are completely helpless. This faulty thinking can suppress our spirit and set the direction for our mood.  Mondays began the work week for most people and statistics indicate that this day sets the pattern for the week. Most feel that if they are having a bad Monday, they have to start with another week instead of another day. Can you imagine feeling the Monday blues for seven days?

“Then I thought, To this I will appeal: the years of the right hand of the Most High. I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.” Psalm 77:10-12

Spiritual Manifestation:  May is Mental Health Awareness Month.  Many Christians suffer with either short or long term mental illnesses, whether it be clinical or mild depression.  Mood swings are common. Every one will encounter a stage of depression in his or her lifetime.  Our greatest Biblical figures and believers dealt with depression and unbalanced emotions. Psalmist Asaph noted a critical part in dealing with unhealthy emotions. He remembered. He meditated. When you are going through a rough time, you have to focus on what is truth and not what appears to be temporary true.  God is always present, even when it feels we are absent.  There has to be a renewing of the mind. Remember all that God has done and meditate on His Word which is the Truth and final authority. Do not wait seven days to start over. Declare your day and set the atmosphere around you. Make GOD greater within you!
